Finkley Down Farm

A website built to welcome 25,000 visitors a week

Finkley Down Farm - HITS

The Situation

Finkley Down Farm is an award-winning family attraction in Andover, Hampshire. It opened in 1981 as one of the first farm parks in the UK, and more than 40 years on it is open all year, seven days a week. Families come from across the country for the indoor play barn, outdoor play including the Little Farmers Driving School, and hands-on animal handling and feeding.

For most of those families, the visit starts on the website. That’s where they check what’s on, plan the day and decide to come.

The Problem

A family attraction’s website carries a lot of weight. It has to answer parents’ questions quickly, mostly on a phone and often on the move, and make a day out look worth the drive.

It also has to hold up under real traffic. The site now averages more than 25,000 visitors a week, and a slow or broken page at the moment a family is deciding where to go costs a visit.

And it can’t stand still. The farm adds attractions, changes its offer and grows year on year. A website built once and left alone falls behind the business it is meant to sell.

What We Built

DigiTickets ticketing and annual passes

Day tickets and annual passes sold online through DigiTickets, integrated with the farm's point of sale so online and on-site sales run as one system.

A bespoke, mobile-first website

Designed for parents planning on their phones, with a clean, easy browsing experience on every device.

Built for heavy traffic

A high-performance site and hosting that handle more than 25,000 visitors a week without slowing down.

A redesign every year

Since 2012 the site has been redesigned annually, so it keeps pace with the farm rather than lagging behind it.

The Result

Families can now plan their visit and buy tickets or an annual pass in one place, with every sale flowing straight into the farm’s point of sale. Visitor numbers have increased year after year, alongside a stronger online presence and rising sales. The website welcomes more than 25,000 visitors a week, and has been kept ahead of the business through annual redesigns and continuous improvement since 2012. After more than a decade together, the farm describes HITS as the only web development company it would consider.

We've worked with HITS for over 14 years, and throughout that time they've consistently delivered outstanding service. They've developed multiple bespoke websites for us over the years, helping our visitor numbers increase year after year and strengthen our online presence and increase sales. The HITS team is knowledgeable, responsive and always goes the extra mile. We wouldn't ever consider switching to another web development company.
