WordPress 5.9 was launched today and is available for update on all WordPress driven websites. Even better, we’re thrilled to let you know that if you’re a HITS client. Then your site has already been updated since all HITS use a custom WordPress framework. We usually implement this to all of our clients on the day of the update release.
Here’s a rundown of what this means for you:
Better Integrated Full Site Editing
With WordPress 5.9, several versions of the Gutenberg plugin have been merged into core, so WordPress users and writers should notice several improvements in the editor. For example, we can now use the navigation block, personal paintbox, patterns (ready to use templates), a revamped list view and a better more powerful gallery block. Along with all these new features WordPress 5.9 features new typography tools, flexible layout controls, and finer control of details like spacing, borders, and more—to help you get not just the look, but the polish that says you care about details.
New Default Block Theme – Twenty Twenty-Two
Twenty Twenty-Two ships with WordPress 5.9 as the first-ever block-based default theme. It comes with a collection of pre-designed colour palettes and a beautiful array of patterns for all kinds of creative combinations. Twenty Twenty-Two was built to showcase full-site editing features, so the layout of every page can be completely customized, making it a truly multipurpose theme.
370+ Other Updates
WordPress 5.9 was made possible by the efforts of 624 contributors, who worked on 371 Trac tickets and submitted 1,919 PR’s on GitHub. Translators have made WordPress available in 205 languages, and 71 locales were more than 90 per cent translated at the time of the release.
We hope you like all the WordPress 5.9 updates as much as we do!
